Shiphrah and Puah's Ethics

So many choices, so many options! That was one of the clear points that emulated from the Kavura conversation about these women! It's interesting that they chose a middle of the road plan(Not plan A or B ...but maybe E or F!) It's interesting that they did not outright reject Pharoah's idea, nor did they run, quit, or pack up and move their business to another location. (After all , they did have a business that would accommodate a transfer of locations!) By choosing to tell part truth and part not-so-true, they stayed in the gap between this increasingly fearful and irrational boss and their own reverence for YHWH and their people.

As a group of 21st century women, we definitely heard each other struggle with God accommodating a lie as a seemingly viable option that the Spirit could work with. In reflection, I saw the complexity of business life here with these two women and all that was at stake for them personally and then nationally ... for their entire nation. They seemed to make a choice for what we might call today, the gray zone of business ethics! What do you think?

All in all ... we had a great conversation with these two very successful business women of the ancient biblical narrative!

Business Women: Shiphrah and Puah

Our September Kavura conversation is focusing on these two business women featured in Exodus 1. Where in their story will we hear and see our own story? Do their voices have anything to say to women of the 21st century? How did God bless them through their business decisions? How did business ethics come into play? I'm looking forward to a colorful discussion with the Kavura women! See you Sept. 16th at the GQ House!
